People's Chefs

  Photo Works by Pazu Chan

July 9 - 29, 2015

Artist will be in attendance at the opening on July 9th (Thursday), 2015, 6 - 8pm

In an attempt to explore the human factors and sentiments behind symbolism, Hong Kong photo-artist Pazu Chan visited 18 star chefs in London and Hong Kong and photographed each of them at ease in various city locations rather than their kitchens, all for catching a different perspective to a stereotyped identity.

Chan said that through the lenses he was able to capture the lesser-known facets of these chefs and their candid dispositions. The photographs, at the same time, recorded down the chefs’ interactions and relations with the changing faces of their cities.

“A chef’s culinary creativity usually revolves around his daily life, living environment, personal encounters and experiences. The juxtaposition of the chefs and the cities creates a contrast as well as a harmony, familiar and yet somewhat unusual. Perhaps without these very individualistic sentiment and perception towards their respective city, these chefs would not have become who they are and their food would not have tasted as they are now.”

Pazu Chan has been a successful commercial photographer since 2003 for various publications, magazines and well-known brands. Apart from photography, he has also worked as an art director for record albums, music video and television promotional trailers. His works have won numerous awards here and overseas.
