Melody in Colours

Oil Paintings by Alex Shou

May 9 - 30, 2013

Artist will be in attendance in the opening on May 9 (Thursday), 2013, 6pm - 8pm.

Alex Shou's paintings take on the spontaneity and boldness of the impressionists as well as the emotion and exaggeration of the expressionists.  On his works are these robust and weighty brushstrokes presenting imageries and forms in a style that is distinctively his own.

Melody In Colours is Shou's second solo exhibition in Art Beatus Gallery.  In his first solo exhibition, "Will It Still Rain Tomorrow?", two years ago, Shou showed paintings that reminded viewers of still frames from the romantic black and white movies.  This time the exhibits are mostly flowers in vibrant colours.

"After an adventure into a world of black and white brushstrokes years ago, this time the beauty of flowers attract me," Shou said in his artist's statement.  "This simple subject has grace, peace and elegance that can only be created by God's mighty touch.  I admire its natural simplicity as well as the fresh colors.  The joy of painting them is simple but sincere."

Born in 1980 and graduated from the Fine Art Department of Shanghai University in 2003, Shou continued his studies in Melbourne University and received his Master's Degree in Fine Arts in 2006.  Now he lives and works in Shanghai and over these years his paintings have been shown and collected in China, Australia, and Hong Kong.

"Melody in Colours" exhibition starts from May 9th until May 30th, 2013.
