Opening Ceremony - August 12,
2005, 6pm - 8pm:
Artist will attend the opening ceremony Since the times of carving on oracle bones, the execution of Chinese characters on various media has evolved from pragmatic exploits to artistic expressions. Artistic expression of calligraphy started to regiment with the coming of the great calligraphers whose expressive strokes took over and became aesthetic standards. Henry Ho is one of the contemporary artists who dedicate themselves to the rejuvenation of artistic expression in Chinese calligraphy working to inject more vitality back to the classical art form. In his exhibition, The Motion in Calligraphy at Art Beatus Gallery, Ho attempts to explore the possibilities of using Chinese Calligraphy as a medium for highly abstract expression of lines, infusing the art form with contemporary emotions. Ho was born in Hong Kong and studied art at the Hong Kong Polytechnics and other art schools. He emigrated to Canada in 1988 and has been actively involved in the Toronto art scene. Ho started teaching Chinese art at the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto since 2003 In 1995, Ho founded the "Ink Path Group" to promote contemporary Chinese ink wash painting there. His works have been collected by private collectors as well as the Frederick Horseman Varley Art Gallery and the Canadian Museum of Civilization. Art Beatus Exchange Square space is located at Shop 301-302 Exchange Square Podium level.
