Their series of
“Welcome to the World’s Famous Brands” has been lauded as a tribute to
the overwhelming consumerism in China in recent years. The joyous
layouts of chubby babies carrying brand-named products have adorned
numerous magazine covers and have been collected by art-lovers around
the world.
Luo Weidong, Luo Weiguo and Luo Weibing, from the Guangxi Autonomous Region of southern China, started working as a team around mid 1990’s in Beijing. They each received proper art training in noted institutes in China, the eldest brother from Guangxi Academy of Fine Art, the second from Guangdong Academy of Fine Art and the youngest from Beijing’s Academy of Art and Craft, which has become the fine art department of the Tsinghua University now. The brothers have become a major creative force of China’s pop-art culture since their selection to the Sao Paulo International Biennale in 1998. Their series of “World’s Famous Brands” are drawing collages on wood backing covered with coats of durable lacquer finish. In the “Happiness” exhibition at Art Beatus Gallery, the Luo Brothers will show their lacquered series which has made them famous worldwide, and the “Name Change” series as well as their latest paper works. Art Beatus Gallery is located at Shop 301-302 Exchange Square podium level.
