Commander Yoshinaka (The Leader of Kiso-Genji / A Cousin of Yoritomo and Yoshitsune)1154-1184 AD
He responded to Yoritomo’s call to uprise as the leader of the Kiso-Genji Clan. The “Contraption Pass” story is famous for the telling of Yoshinaka’s ingenuity; torches were lit and tied to the horns of the bulls that would run the Heike down the cliff in the night. Yoshinaka’s aggression and quickness disturbed the Heike’s strong hold on the court after Kiyomori’s death; he was awarded the title “General Sun” by Emperor Goshirakawa-in. Yoshinaka however, was no politician and quarrelled with his cousin, Yoritomo; he was killed by Yoritomo’s men at the age of 31.
