“Foxy" Lady Gion (Mother of Lord Kiyomori)

The bewitchingly beautiful Lady Gion was already pregnant with Kiyomori by the 72nd Emperor when she was awarded to another man for his bravery; this man would become Kiyomori’s father.  There is a passage in ‘The Tale’ in which the Emperor tells Kiyomori’s father, “If the baby is a girl, return her to me.  If the baby is a boy, bring him up as a Samurai’.
