Watercolours by Lynn and Toni Onley: A Father-Daughter Exhibition March 02 – April 27, 2012 Opening Reception | Mar 02, (Fri), 3pm - 6pm Meet Lynn Onley Artist Will Be in Attendance
Legendary
and beloved Canadian watercolour artist Toni Onley passed away
8 years ago at the age of 75. His daughter, Lynn Onley, through her own
art is keeping the family tradition vibrant and
alive. “Connected
Landscapes” presented by Art Beatus (Vancouver)
will feature a special selection of watercolour paintings
by both father and daughter. Approximately 24 works,
12 for each artist, will be on display. The
exhibition opens on March 02, 2012 from 3pm to 6pm and
Lynn Onley will be present at the reception.
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. “The show is all about
connections, between us, our elements and each other”. Lynn Onley was born in 1953. Following in the footsteps of her parents, she began her formal education in art when she enrolled at the Capilano College of Art, then at the Vancouver School of Art, and finally graduating in 1982 at the Emily Carr College of Art with a major in sculpture. In her mid-30’s, her interest in painting grew strong and she began flying and painting with her father, often to isolated, far-off locations in British Columbia made only accessible by Toni’s small plane. “My father was a great mentor and friend. You’ll see his influences, also my own unique style. His paintings are just stunning…I spent many wondrous times sitting on a log watching my father paint everything with one brush”. Born in 1928 on
the Isle of Man, Toni
Onley immigrated to Canada in 1948, living
in Brantford, Ontario and eventually settling in
Vancouver, British Columbia. Although he was widely
known for his distinctive watercolours and oils, Toni also
worked in mixed media and collage. His love of flying
enabled him to travel to remote places, capturing the
landscapes he was known so well for, and drawing many
pencil sketches from the air. In 1999 he was made an
Officer of the Order of Canada. Tragically,
Toni died in February 2004 when his amphibious float plane
plunged into the Fraser River while he was
practicing take-offs and landings. Similar
to her father, Lynn Onley regularly uses her art to
support a number of organizations that are important to
her. For the duration of the “Connected Landscapes”
exhibition, raffle tickets for charity will be sold
through the gallery - 1
for $5.00 or 3 for $10.00 - to win a framed watercolour painting by
Lynn (please scroll down for a thumbnail image of the
work or click this link). Given Toni’s and
Lynn’s connection to nature, and their appreciation and
interest in environmental issues, all proceeds received
will be donated to the environmental organization, Sierra Club BC*.
In addition to the watercolour paintings on exhibit, a
number of silkscreen prints and an oil painting will also
be available to view. “Connected Landscapes” featuring the works
of Lynn and Toni Onley runs from
March 2 to April 27, 2012.
